This additional amount is in response to the approach for help by the UN and the Government of Pakistan in view of the humanitarian crisis which has occurred in Northern Pakistan.
The Netherlands is a major donor internationally to the core funding of ICRC, UNHCR and CERF. In 2009 these funds amount to 25million Euro, 42 million Euro and 40million Euro respectively. This core funding is coordinated by the UN for emergency situations worldwide. The advantage of this core funding is that it is readily available when such large scale tragedies occur. The UN works in clusters and these work with leading organisations within the UN, NGO’s and local Govt bodies in order to provide the initial food, health, education and shelter to those affected the most.
