Hugo Gajus Scheltema
Ambassador Scheltema was born in New York and studied law at the University of Leiden before entering the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1979.
He served in different countries, including as Ambassador in Slovakia and Jordan, and as former Personal Adviser to the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Mr Max van der Stoel. In 2007-2008 he was political advisor to the Commander ISAF-South in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Before his arrival in Islamabad he held the position of Consul General in New York.
Ambassador Scheltema has written several articles on political/military affairs, as well as publications on archaeology and art. In 2011 he co-edited 'Exploring Historic Dutch New York’ (Dover Press).
